- What is the working principle of the inductive proximity sensor
- It is based on the principle of electromagnetic induction. The internal oscillating coil generates an alternating magnetic field. When a metallic target approaches, eddy current losses occur on the metal surface, attenuating the oscillation amplitude. The sensor detects this amplitude variation and outputs a switching signal to achieve non contact detection of metal objects
- What is the detection distance
- The Max detection distance relates to the sensor diameter: M8: 2mm; M12: 4mm; M18: 8mm; M30: 15mm
- What output types are available
- NPN: NO NC, PNP: NO NC; some models support analog output
- How to distinguish between flush mountable and non flush mountable types
- Flush mountable: Can be fully embedded into a metal base for installation. Non flush mountable: The sensing face must protrude from the metal surface; otherwise the detection distance will drop significantly
- What objects can be detected by inductive proximity sensors
- Only metallic objects can be detected. Best performance is achieved with iron and steel. Copper, aluminum and stainless steel will reduce the actual detection distance
- How to select between NPN and PNP outputs
- Match with PLC input modules. NPN output connects to sink input; PNP output connects to source input
- How to choose NO (Normally Open) and NC (Normally Closed)
